One of the core values at COGA is fostering spiritual independence among believers. We believe that each person is called to develop a personal relationship with God, independent of others. While fellowship is essential, we encourage believers to connect with God on their own, through prayer, meditation, and study of the Word. Inspired by 1 Peter 2:9, we believe that every believer is a priest, with direct access to God, and has the potential to grow in spiritual maturity. Our church values self-reliance in spiritual matters, enabling individuals to be equipped to make their own decisions guided by God’s wisdom.
Spiritual Independence at Church of God Assembly is rooted in the belief that each believer has direct access to God and is empowered to grow in their personal relationship with Him. We encourage our members to seek God for themselves, rather than relying solely on others for spiritual guidance. This aligns with 1 Peter 2:9, which reminds us that we are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,” showing that each of us is called to be spiritually active and independent, standing firm in our faith.
We believe that spiritual independence involves personal responsibility in prayer, Bible study, and walking in obedience to God’s Word. Philippians 2:12 encourages us to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” This emphasizes the importance of each individual nurturing their relationship with God, seeking His guidance, and growing in spiritual maturity. As believers, we are called to engage with God personally, learning to rely on His direction in every area of life.
OnlineSpiritual independence does not mean isolation but rather a personal accountability to God that strengthens the collective body of Christ. By developing a strong, independent relationship with God, we contribute to the overall health and unity of the church. As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This shows that true spiritual independence is grounded in trusting God and seeking His will above all.
